What is Copyright?
Copyright refers to the legal framework that grants exclusive rights to the creators of original works. These works can include literary, artistic, and scientific creations, among others. The purpose of copyright is to provide creators with the exclusive right to use, reproduce, distribute, and display their works. In the UAE, copyright protection is governed by Federal Law No. 7 of 2002 on Copyrights and Related Rights.
Works eligible for copyright protection in the UAE encompass a broad spectrum, ranging from literary pieces and musical compositions to software, architectural designs, and even databases. The protection extends to both published and unpublished works, offering a comprehensive shield against unauthorized use.
